arolyn and Chris in Detroit for Christmas 2000
My
friend, Gus Mollasis likes to walk the beach for hours thinking about life and
being open to inspiration. A huge fan of hockey and his beloved Detroit Red Wings,
he wrote a touching book about the team called On a Wing and a Prayer. He is a
very sensitive man and he made it possible for me to come to Detroit and appear
at not only one but two screenings of It's a Wonderful Life. He gave the people
of the Detroit area a wonderful treat. The Redford Theater is a

beautiful theater that has been renovated and adored. It still has its original
theater organ. For an audience of 1100 it was an opportunity to share a special
moment stepping into Bedford Falls once again. There
are so many fans in the area that have found the magic of the film. I love going
to Detroit where I have so many friends. Franklin Dohanyos, my publicist lives
in the area. He probably can recite the movie lines backwards, if asked. And then
there is Manny Gravame, my special fan and friend who adds much joy to my life.

One of
the highlights of my visit was a party with Dawn Wells. Dawn was appearing in
a play while I was there. Thanks everyone Chris and I had a wonderful time! I
got an invitation to attend a wedding......It's a Wonderful Life is the
grooms' favorite movie. He took the video and put his own image in place of George
and during the Buffalo Gal segment, he asked his girlfriend whose name was really
Mary to be his wife. A year later it was going to happen. Although I wasn't able
to attend the wedding, they came to meet me and brought me a silver bell that
the "bride to be" had fashioned with a silver ribbon and a little card saying
"Every time a bell rings and angel gets his wings". They were going to give one
to each person to ring when the couple leave the church.
It
is a Wonderful Life!
